Seedly ("we", "us", or "our") operates a crowdfunding platform that connects local communities with entrepreneurs opening new venues in Belgium. We are committed to protecting your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Belgian data protection law.
This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have. By using our platform, you agree to the practices described here.
What Data We Collect
Account information: When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and password. Campaign creators also provide a profile photo and short bio.
Campaign data: Creators provide venue details, descriptions, images, team information, location data, funding goals, and perk structures.
Backing activity: When you back a campaign, we record your pledge amount, selected perk tier, and any public message you choose to leave.
Payment information: Payment details are processed securely by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card number on our servers.
Usage data: We collect information about how you use the platform, including pages visited, features used, and device/browser information.
Location data: We may collect approximate location data to show you nearby campaigns. This is only used with your consent.
How We Use Your Data
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- To create and manage your account
- To process pledges and manage campaign funding
- To display campaign information and backer activity on the platform
- To send transactional emails (pledge confirmations, campaign updates, perk redemption)
- To improve and personalize your experience on the platform
- To detect fraud and maintain platform security
- To comply with legal obligations
Our legal bases for processing under GDPR are: contract performance (for account and pledge management), legitimate interest (for platform improvement and security), consent (for marketing communications and location data), and legal obligation (for tax and regulatory requirements).
Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Essential cookies: Keep you signed in and remember your preferences. These are necessary for the platform to function.
- Analytics cookies: Help us understand how visitors use the platform so we can improve it. These are only placed with your consent.
You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect your ability to use certain features.
Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Stripe: Processes payments securely. Stripe receives your payment details directly and is PCI DSS compliant.
- Mapbox: Provides map functionality for campaign locations. Mapbox may collect anonymized usage data.
- Google OAuth: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account. We do not access other Google data.
- Sentry: Monitors application errors to help us maintain platform stability. Sentry may receive technical data about your device and browser when an error occurs.
We only share the minimum data necessary with each provider. All our third-party partners process data in compliance with GDPR.
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to restrict processing: Ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest, including direct marketing.

Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to provide our services and fulfill the purposes described in this policy:
- Account data: Kept for the duration of your account. After account deletion, we retain a minimal record for 30 days in case you change your mind.
- Transaction records: Retained for 7 years as required by Belgian tax and accounting regulations.
- Campaign data: Public campaign information may be retained indefinitely as part of the platform's historical record, even after a campaign ends.
- Usage data: Anonymized after 24 months.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through a notice on the platform. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
